Losing your hair during chemotherapy treatment is one of the most visible and emotionally challenging aspects of cancer care. At Michael Roberts Wig Centre in Southend-on-Sea, we have supported chemotherapy patients through this experience for over 40 years.
Our appointments are private, unhurried, and completely confidential. We understand that visiting a wig centre for the first time can feel daunting, and our experienced team will make sure you feel comfortable and supported from the moment you contact us.
When Should I Visit?
Many clients choose to come to us before their chemotherapy treatment begins, so we can match your wig as closely as possible to your natural hair colour, texture, and style. This means you can move through your treatment with continuity and confidence.
If your treatment has already started, or your hair has already begun to fall, please do not worry — we are experienced in fitting wigs at every stage and will make sure you find something that feels natural and right for you.
We offer same-day appointments where possible and understand that your hospital schedule may not always allow much notice.
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your appointment will take place in a private fitting room with one of our specialist consultants. There is no pressure, no rush, and no obligation to make a decision on the day.
During your consultation we will:
- Talk through your current hair colour, style, and what matters most to you
- Explain the differences between synthetic, high heat fibre, and human hair wigs
- Help you try a range of options until you find one that feels like you
- Provide professional fitting, trimming, and styling as needed
- Give you full aftercare guidance before you leave
Most clients leave the same day with their wig, wearing it out of the salon with confidence.
You Are Welcome to Bring Someone With You
We know that a cancer diagnosis affects the whole family. You are very welcome to bring a partner, family member, or close friend to your appointment. Our premises are spacious and designed to feel comfortable for you and your companions. Up to two guests can accompany you.
About Our Wigs
We stock over 400 wigs on display and thousands more in stock, across a wide range of styles, colours, and lengths. Our range includes:

Synthetic wigs
Lightweight, easy to care for, and available in a huge range of styles. They hold their shape well and require very little daily maintenance, which can be important during treatment.

High heat fibre wigs
These wigs offer more styling flexibility than standard synthetic wigs and can be used with heated tools such as straighteners and curling tongs.

Human hair wigs
The most natural-looking and feeling option. They can be washed, styled, and coloured just like your own hair.
During your consultation we will help you understand which type best suits your lifestyle, budget, and what feels most comfortable for you.

Every appointment at Michael Roberts is completely private. We operate on an appointment-only basis, meaning you will never share the salon with other clients. Everything discussed during your consultation is entirely confidential.
We do not display photographs of our clients, and all images on this website are illustrative only.
NHS Wig Vouchers
We are not currently registered as an NHS wig supplier and are unable to accept NHS wig vouchers directly. If you are unsure about your NHS entitlements, we recommend speaking to your oncology nurse or hospital team. Many of our clients find that the personal service, extensive range, and specialist expertise we offer represents significant value beyond what is available through NHS suppliers.
